At the “Haus der Handwerksammer Bremen” close to a 100 people attended the official ‘Ethiopia Coffee Day’ event, a yearly event organized by the German Coffee Association since 2006. This year, the focus was on Ethiopia, the motherland of coffee.
Thomas Gerkmann, Honorary Consul of Ethiopia, hosted the evening along with Stefan Schiebe, Managing Director of the Bremen “Handwerkskammer” who praised the decision to choose his organisation for the event, which is home to the bakers‘ and confectioners’ guilds, both of which are closely linked to coffee.
Every second cup of coffee drunk in Germany is roasted in Bremen.
Baroness Ilse von Münchenhausen, Managing Director of the traditional coffee roasting company August Münchhausen Bremen, presented the ‘Queen of Saba Coffee’ project, a wild coffee from the Ethiopian rainforest in organic quality, where part of the proceeds go to the museum in Wuqro / Ethiopia. Nina & Dr Konrad Melchers from the Society for the Promotion of Museums in Ethiopia reported on the first decade of the museum in Wukro / Ethiopia whose opening was celebrated in Bremen and Ethiopia in 2014.
